Finding An Acoustic Solution Suited To Your Needs

Complete, custom solutions
ASC is unique in the world of acoustics, in that we are one of the few companies that offer full-service, turnkey solutions to acoustics. Unlike other approaches, we help you all the way from initial fact-finding and problem identification, to engineering & design services, all they way through to delivery of a complete custom acoustic control package designed specifically for your space and individual needs.

When it comes to church acoustics, there is no such thing as 'one size fits all'. Church acoustics is not the same as 'sound control'. Sound control normally involves the simple process of absorbing excess sound, due to too much reverberation. This is the world of the acoustic contractor or acoustic supply company. They come in, maybe run a sound test and some simple calculations to measure the amount of reverberation in the room. From there, they calculate the amount of extra absorption material needed to bring down the reverberation to an acceptable level. Once the amount of materials needed is determined, it's just a matter of deciding what it should look like, and where in the room it might fit. Although this approach may work fine for gymnasiums, swimming pools, or large meeting rooms, it can spell disaster for the unsuspecting church.

Multi-purpose rooms
A church differs in that it is being used for multiple purposes. At times, the minister is speaking, and there is little desire for reverberation. But later in the service, the congregation begins to sing-and now it's desirable to have that enveloping reverb of the hall to mix everyone's voices together beautifully into a unified whole. Still later, a soloist may perform who needs to hear their own voice remain in the near field, while it still projects easily out into the congregation--yet without any distracting echoes returning to throw off their timing. Throw in the needs of the praise band, choir, and youth group, and it can quickly become complex and overwhelming. The process of applying the correct mix of acoustic material in the appropriate areas to maximize the sound of the church is also a complex undertaking. This process is termed 'voicing' of the church, and should be handled by qualified personnel-those trained and experienced in architectural acoustics, music performance, and psychoacoustics.
